Special Weather Statement issued March 11 at 8:05AM EDT by NWS Charleston WV
Relative humidity values ranging from around 20 to 25 percent and breezy to gusty winds will result in elevated fire danger across the area this afternoon and evening, with wind gusts of 15 to 20 mph possible.
Any ignition source may quickly get out of control given the gusty winds. For your safety and the safety of others, you are urged to avoid outdoor burning.
The Spring fire season for the state of Virginia is from February 15th through April 30. During this time...Virginia law prohibits outdoor burning between the hours of midnight and 4 pm at any location in or within 300 feet of a woodland or brushland area.
Warm...yet dry conditions often experienced during the fall months...combined with abundant dry leaves and dead grasses...create an elevated fire risk.
