Special Weather Statement issued March 26 at 4:15AM EDT by NWS Baltimore MD/Washington DC
Behind a cold front, very dry and gusty west to northwesterly winds will overspread the region today. Any recent rainfall has been limited to 0.05 inches or less and confined to the I-95 corridor in central Virginia eastward into southern Maryland.
Additionally, the region remains dry which has dried out fuels, but not quite as much as those over the Shenandoah Valley.
The combination of these dry antecedent conditions, relative humidity falling to the 20 to 25 percent range, and sustained west to northwesterly winds up to 15 mph, with gusts to around 25 to 30 mph will result in an elevated threat for the rapid spread of fires from 11 AM this morning through 7 PM this evening.
Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you may burn outdoors. If you do burn, use extreme caution since fires can quickly grow out of control under these conditions.
