Canceled 6/10/21 1:30 PM Special Weather Statement issued June 10 at 12:29PM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA At 1228 PM EDT, strong thunderstorms were clustered near Naola, or 7 miles east of Big Island, moving east at 5 mph. Pea size hail is possible with these storms along with very heavy rainfall. Locations impacted include... Buckingham... Amherst... Appomattox... Dillwyn... Forks Of Buffalo... Bent Creek... and Clifford. Locally heavy rain will quickly reduce visibility and result in ponding of water on roadways, standing water in low lying areas, and minor flooding of creeks, streams, and areas of poor drainage. Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution to avoid hydroplaning. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. |
