Special Weather Statement issued June 11 at 6:53AM EDT by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC
A series of rain showers moving slowly northeast across the Great Smoky Mountains, and up the spine of the southern Appalachians, will produce locally heavy rainfall in the region. Radar and rain gauges indicated rainfall rates of one-half to one inch per hour with these showers, and an additional inch or more of rain may fall through 8 am.
Locations to be impacted include... Marshall, Cherokee, Maggie Valley, Hot Springs, portions of the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Smokies, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and Newfound Gap.
Deep standing water may develop in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Streams and creeks may rise to near bankfull.
