At 1015 PM EDT, radar indicated thunderstorms moving southwest through the western New River Valley, along a line extending from near Chilhowie to near Galax. Movement was southwest at 25 to 30 mph.
Winds up to 40 mph are possible with these storms.
Locations impacted include...
Marion...
Saltville...
Chilhowie...
Sparta...
Jefferson...
West Jefferson...
and Independence.
Locally heavy rain is also possible, and will quickly reduce visibility and result in ponding of water on roadways, standing water in low lying areas, and minor flooding of creeks, streams, and areas of poor drainage. Drivers are urged to slow down and use extra caution to avoid hydroplaning.
