For the High Wind Warning, northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 to 60 mph, with 75 mph gusts on ridgetops expected. For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 10 below expected. * WHERE... Avery County. * WHEN... For the High Wind Warning, until 7 PM EST Saturday. For the Cold Weather Advisory, from 1 AM Saturday to 7 AM EST Sunday. * IMPACTS... Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... A Winter Weather Advisory is also in effect for Avery County for snow accumulation through 7 am Saturday. Expect difficult travel on snow covered roads. The strong winds will result in areas of blowing snow that will sharply reduce the visibility. ![]() |
