At 314 PM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Naola to Huddleston to near Western Smith Mountain Lake. Movement was northeast at 15 mph.
Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail are possible with these storms.
Locations impacted include...
Lynchburg...
Bedford...
Altavista...
Amherst...
Hurt...
Huddleston...
and Big Island.
If you are on or near Smith Mountain Lake or Philpott Lake, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm.
If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.
