At 1226 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located near West Union, or 11 miles southeast of Middlebourne, moving southeast at 20 mph.
Wind gusts up to 45 mph and penny size hail are possible with this storm.
Locations impacted include...
Salem, New Milton, Smithburg, Lima, Blandville, Avon and Canton.
This includes Route 50 in West Virginia between mile markers 55 and 69.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may cause localized flooding. Excessive runoff will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams, and ponding of water on country roads and farmland along the banks of creeks and streams.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
