...Moderate to Locally Heavy Rainfall will continue to affect Smyth, Wythe, and Grayson Counties through 130 AM EST...
At 1223 AM EST, Widespread moderate rain, with locally heavy rain continued to move eastward across Smyth, Wythe, and Grayson counties. This will continue for at least another hour. This includes Interstate 81 between mile markers 32 and 80.
During the past three hours, over an inch of rain has fallen in parts of extreme western Smyth County near the Washington County line. Additional rainfall amounts of 1/2 to 1 inch are possible through 230 AM EST.
The heavy rainfall will combine with areas of dense fog, especially at higher elevations, to result in extremely poor driving conditions in some locations. Ponding of water along with minor flooding of low- lying, poor drainage, and normally flood prone areas can be expected.
If you will be traveling through this region. Use extreme caution in areas of heavy rain and fog. Reduce speed, allow extra distance between you and the vehicle in front of you, and use low beam headlights.
