Special Weather Statement issued November 26 at 4:46AM EST by NWS Blacksburg VA
Low clouds and rain have resulted in cloud ceilings lowering to ground level across the higher terrain of the Interstate 77 Corridor as it crosses the Blue Ridge through Wythe and Carroll counties early this morning. Visibilities have dropped to as low as 1/4 mile from near the Fancy Gap exit northward toward Hillsville.
If you are planning travel through this region early this morning, be alert for severely reduced visibility, at times near zero miles, creating very hazardous driving conditions. Reduce speed, use low beam headlights, and allow extra distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. Heed the variable speed limit and other warning signs posted by the Virginia Department of Transportation and various law enforcement agencies as you travel through this section of I-77.
Conditions are expected to improve after 9 AM EST this morning.
