Special Weather Statement issued July 8 at 6:02AM EDT by NWS Blacksburg VA
Dense fog has been developing in many areas throughout the Mid- Atlantic and Central Appalachians early this morning. While the fog has not yet become widespread, many locations across the region have seen visibilities drop to less than one mile in fog during the past couple of hours. This includes large portions of Interstate 81, Interstate 77, and Interstate 64. Fog conditions will tend to be the worst near bodies of water such as lakes, rivers, creeks, and streams, as well as in deeper mountain valleys and mainly outside the urban areas of larger cities.
Motorists should be prepared to encounter rapidly changing visibility as they travel about the region this morning. When areas of dense fog are encountered, reduce speed, use low beam headlights, and allow extra distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
The fog is expected to dissipate by around 9 AM EDT this morning.
